Awards and Recognition


Special awards and recognition have recently been bestowed upon CPCP members:

Peter Bird: Elected Fellow to both the American Geophysical Union and the Geological Society of America.

John Wasson: Awarded the 1992 Leonard Medal of the Meteoritical Society. This medal is the premier medal and scientific honor of the Society, which is an international organization of meteorite researchers. Prof. Wasson was also honored in May, 1992 by having Asteroid 4783 named in his honor in recognition of his meteorite research achievements. The discoverers of the asteroid were Caroline and Eugene Shoemaker (also a Leonard Medal recipient).
