The rotation of the solar interior

by Toby Wood
USCS

Abstract

The rotation profile within the solar interior has been measured to high accuracy for more than 20 years, providing considerable information about the Sun's internal dynamics. However, thus far no numerical model has satisfactorily reproduced the observations, raising important questions about the transport of angular momentum and magnetic fields within stellar interiors. We will describe recent progress in modelling these processes, and discuss what remains to be done.
