INTERMITTENCY IN STRONG SHEAR FLOWS

Abstract

In this talk I review the present knowledge on intermittency in homogeneous and isotropic turbulence and strong shear flows. Numerical simulations and laboratory data suggest that intermittency corrections are universal. In particular, for strong shear flows two regimes have been observed above and below a characteristic shear scale. Finally, our knowledge can be used to investigate parameterization of small scale effects in turbulent flows, with and without shear.
